For a time, he thought the mountain basin surrounded by a steep rocky cirque was haunted -- being that it was so quiet and isolated as he entered it. A place where only the spirits might dwell, he thought. In his quest, along with walking stick in hand and backpack shouldered, he saw no evidence of man nor his footprints in passing. Only the tracks of wild beasts were seen, liken to coyote, deer and goat. Soon, he came upon the little gemlike lake he had sought. Above it on a bench, he located a good camp site with an exceptional view - 360 degrees of pure wilderness to include an unobstructed view of the vast night sky. Here in the silence, with wildflowers growing near his feet, he pondered the events of the day and of why he sought the wild so much. Perhaps it was just his way of reconnecting himself to primeval earth? Perhaps it was just because of the simplicity of it all.....
