Heather Lake notes of Aug. 15, 1977:
Went up the trail this morning (with my German short-haired pointer dog "Pardner") through the wonderful old growth "inspiring" forest to the lake. Upon arriving there, the splendid looming view of Pilchuck Ridge stood boldly in my face. Nowhere was the sight or sound of other people and I got the feeling as if the lake and cirque were mine. Out in the lake rose some feeding fish and soon I was fishing for them . . . later catching a few rainbows to take home. The rest of the day was spent loafing around the cirque and soaking up the sun of the day. Towards evening, I descended down the trail, still encountering nobody. And as I went, I picked a few wildflowers for my girlfriend back at town. Into the old 1962 Ford 4x4 we climbed and headed for home, happy and content having spent another wonderful day upon Pilchuck.....
