The Northwest Sportsman Magazine © Ken James McLeod
This magazine was produced from 1930-1933 by Ken McLeod (my grandfather) to help aid the passage of Initiative #62 by the people's vote in 1932, which created the Washington State Game Dept. and Game Commission, thus removing "corrupt" county control.
In so doing, the magazine featured many fine articles and photographs written by Northwest venerated outdoor sportsmen and mountaineer's. It followed the Taft's Fishing Guide, which my grandfather wrote for at times, and preceeded the Ben Paris Fishing & Hunting Guide that he edited until about 1950. He also wrote an outdoors column for the Seattle P.I. (Singing Reels, Red Hat Brigade, Trail Blazer) and helped edit the daily sports section from 1930-1950, as well as writing for the Seattle Star and the New York Times newspaper and various other magazines during that time frame. "The Northwest Sportsman--On The Air" (KXA Seattle Radio) was featured Tuesday evenings from 6:45-7:45 PM in 1933.
The magazine is considered "extremely rare" and to date, I have about twenty originals
