Mt. Pilchuck was first climbed in 1897, though evidence of Indian travels in the high country may preclude that...goat snares on Three Fingers Mtn. The first Lookout was built in 1918-1919, with many colorful characters stationed there as fire lookout men to follow. In 1948, a ski area was established complete with chalet built later on. It later closed down in 1977 primarliy due to insufficient levels of snow for good skiing. I remember vividly seeing skiing lights from Hwy #9 while traveling with Dad to fish the Pilchuck River as a kid in the 1950s.
