In Mountain Moonlight

Mt. Forgotten Moonlight© Ken James McLeod

How powerful this luminescence be
The mountain moonlight shine we see.

Amid the stark-gray granite snowy peak rockery
Are shadow monsters lurking, grinning, Oh their derisive mockery.

Comes the star dance of clear-night day of placid weather,
Stillness speaks 'cept for the wing beat of prowling night hawk's feather.

With mist rising 'bove the crystal-white frost
An eerie yellow luster shines upon glacier and way route once lost.

Climbing fast with crampons, ice axe and rope before heat of day
'tis only understood in our mountaineering way.

Breathing thin air now, further to the top with summit now a must
Oh how pure the moonlight be, climbing higher the obsession, the passion, and the lust...
