An eagle soared over Goat Mountain (6,891') and then perched atop it, a flock of about 30 gold finch type birds flew from the valley of Silesia (west fork) Creek across the divide near Twin Lakes (5,200'), and deer tracks could be seen in the dirt around me. The Autumn view at hand was spectacular: Tomyhoi Peak (7,451'), Yellow Aster Butte (6,145'), American Border Peak (8,026'), Winchester Mtn. (6,521'), the peaks of the Skagit Range, as well as the blue-hued Twin Lakes below, Mt. Larrabee (7,868') was in my face, and of course the ever-present snow-coned giant Mt. Baker. And from my perch (est. 6,500') I lingered not wanting to ever leave . . . the shadows fell and sun shafts streaked through the forest ridges. And Baker became encased in a beautiful-hued sunset glow.
