With deep reverence, I peered into the blue-hued abyss of the mountain lake before me, and in the gleam of the last light as well as in the murky shadows, I saw myself humbled by nature's raw beauty, yet connected to her though just a mere man. And in that sense, I thought of how much humanity has to gain by having such places of wild beauty...beauty that touches the very heart and soul of men and women, who cherish the wild for what it is and wish to preserve it for the future. And when the last rays of the sun settled upon my shoulders as I hiked down the trail in the mute silence of darkness, I had a profound feeling that I was already home and need not go any further...
