Enter Dock Butte: at the end of the road #1230, a short hike led me to a beautiful blue-hued lake, named of course Blue Lake. Around its edge I wandered seeing nobody. After a short rest, I wandered up the old trail above the lake to Dock Butte where the view was grand. Here, once stood an old Fire Lookout used back in the 30s and 1940s. Upon inspection of the ground, I found an old slab of cement that contained the names of the Foundation Builders Inc. (Fred Thorn, Roy Evans, Bill Beneke) as well as the U.S. Geological Survey disk stamped into solid rock and dated 1939. On the trail out, a bull elk damn near ran me off it as he trotted along the path.....visible were a swarm of deer (horse) flies around his velvet antlers.
