Chrome Steelhead
~ From the River Edge ~

36 1/2 inch Winter-run Steelhead

March 24, 1994

On a beautiful blue-hued day along the river, four blacktailed deer came wandering up the gravel bar to about forty feet from where I fished. They were not afraid and I took their photo. Sometime later downstream, I hooked and caught and released a nice hen steelhead of around 10 pounds from the drift we call the "Slingshot Hole."

Moving on downstream to a little riffle where a few large boulders held, creating holding water, I hooked a nice big hen "chrome" winter-run steelhead, a fish to salivate over. The big fish leaped out of water several times as it ran down river and out the riffle to the next drift, where eventually I led it to shore and released it. She measured 36 1/2 inches. What a fish! Steelhead have a way of getting ones own self hooked - once stung it becomes a life pursuit.....
