Hike to Canyon Lake
May 25, 2001
Boulder Rv. Wilderness

This trip began many years ago, but somehow I just never got around to going into this little area until now. At the end of the road on Green Mtn., I parked the truck then put on my mountain garb, and set out for the trek. The view of Mt. Pilchuck here is fantastic by the way! Hiked the old logging road with numerous little streams and waterfalls (Benson Creek especially) on it for about 3 miles to near the lake. There, hiked the little trail in the virgin forest of the Boulder Rv. Wilderness up to the lake, which is a nice emerald-colored lake of about 5 acres and very deep. Lots of old logs near the outlet. Lake temp 60, elev. 2,700', weather sunny near 80, observed a few old camps from prior seasons, no sign of use this yr. Caught a few small brookies 8-10" on a spinner and let them go. Sat beneath a huge grand fir at the lake edge and contemplated the day. Heard a blue grouse hooting, a flicker calling, and other mountain birds chattering. What a great little out-of-the-way-place for an adventure. Saw nobody in or out. The evening trek out was very enjoyable, too. Plus picked up some trash along the road down near the Hwy. "Can't stand to see trash or litter some people leave or dump." Some just don't have any respect for nature and the land sorry to say.......
