Bear and Hemple Lake
June 8-9, 1977

With good weather at hand, John Quinn and I decided to take the small hike into Bear, and fish while we camped there for a two day trip. Took the dog "Pardner" the German shorthaired pointer along. Found lake ice fee, camped near the outlet under towering firs, had a wonderful fire that night along with a fine camp fire cooked dinner. Fishing pretty good with lots of brookies although small around 9 inches. Kept some for eating.

Next day, I hiked through the woods over the hump into Hemple, where lake was found to be still frozen. Saw a marten enroute to lake in conifir forest high up in cedar tree. "What a sight!" Back to Bear later for some more fishing.

Camping notes: not many bugs, no other camps or people at lake, no other vehicles at parking area. Slept under the trees with partial tarp, no rain though, fair weather. A nice two day camp in the Pilchuck woods.....
