Ascending Wild

~ Buckhorn Wilderness ~

From high above the mountain conifers, I watched in awe a red-tailed hawk soaring well over the surrounding peaks, as if inspecting his kingdom with critical eyes searching for some imperfection that really didn't exist. His flight was something to behold! And at times he hovered on some unseen wind current only he himself could feel. I could tell in his grace, his wings were very powerful ; performing flawlessly when called upon to do whatever was asked of them . . . they seemed to touch and feel much like a rudder steering a ships voyage in the dark-blue sea. "How wonderful it must be being a bird of such grace and power," I thought. And at that moment, near 7,000 feet, I wished that I was a hawk, too! Where I could soar over such grand wild land herein the beautiful Buckhorn Wilderness . . .
