Hey look, some hikers (five adults) down below us coming up the trail," someone said.

We had been on Sulphur Mountain off-trail on a 5-day trek and had dropped down off the mountain on a steep rib to circumvent the Suiattle River Trail, at about the seven mile mark up from the trailhead.

"Get down behind the brush so they can't see us," I said. "And watch this, I'll make some Bigfoot sounds!"

With that, I began to thrash the bushes therefrom the dark forest with my old hiking stick while grunting, groaning, and blowing awful-hideous noises in the hikers direction. Meanwhile my friends (Mark Boyle, Glen Lee, and Steve White) were getting an eye and earful of my rant, and were soon chuckling under their breath if not ready to burst out into loud laughter. The hikers came almost to an abrupt halt in the trail, then with some mumbling, began a very fast pace...about as fast as one can hike without running. It wasn't too long before they eclipsed the next bend in the river trail and were gone from sight. We all laughed right out loud with wide grins stretched from ear to ear.

Later, I did feel a little guilty about behaving like the creature "Bigfoot" and scaring those hikers with wild and hideous sounds. But then, someone has to hone up to all these reported Bigfoot Encounters.....

Certainly, they must have had lots to talk about around the evening camp that night?
